BROWNSVILLE, Texas (October 24, 2025): The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) marked a major milestone Wednesday as Aerus and Viva Aerobus announced a new partnership to expand air connectivity across Mexico and South Texas.
Through the new interline alliance, travelers will gain access to 37 destinations across 130 routes, including 17 new cities now reachable from Brownsville such as Mexico City, Cancún, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Mérida and Tijuana. The partnership will make it easier for travelers to connect seamlessly across both airlines’ networks, providing more convenience for families, leisure travelers and business passengers.
Viva Aerobus representative Jordi Porcel said, “We initiated our alliance with Aerus last May and together we have managed to provide our services to many US and Mexican citizens in communities where connectivity has been limited. We are really proud of what we have achieved so far, and it is exciting to also bring now, to the people of Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley, the possibility of enjoying all of what Mexico has to offer through a simple stop in Monterrey.”
The partnership announcement coincided with the grand opening of three new airport amenities, The BRO Playport, Cactus Brew Coffee Company and The HUB Business Center. The Playport, a kid-friendly playroom, and The HUB highlight BRO’s commitment to serving both leisure and business travelers. And Cactus Brew Coffee brings local flavor and convenience as the airport’s first post-security dining and coffee option, reflecting the airport’s continued growth and modernization.
“This is an exciting new chapter for BRO and our passengers,” said Angel Ramos, BRO Airport Director. “The partnership between Aerus and Viva Aerobus demonstrates our shared commitment to providing more travel opportunities and serving all types of travelers. Whether you’re traveling with family, for business, or just exploring the world, our new amenities make the airport more convenient, enjoyable and welcoming for everyone.”
Local officials and community leaders attended the event, including Aerus CEO Javier Herrera, Viva Aerobus representative Jordi Porcel, Mexican Consul Judith Arrieta, Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, City Manager Helen Ramirez, and Cactus Brew Coffee Company owners Oscar and Kathy Balli. The event drew nearly 90 guests and community members, highlighting the airport’s growing role as a regional connector and economic driver.
The partnership between Aerus and Viva Aerobus strengthens Brownsville’s position as a key gateway between Texas and Mexico. By expanding flight options and streamlining travel across two complementary networks, the alliance will boost tourism, business travel and cross-border economic development for the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
“In one year of operations in Brownsville, Aerus has become the bridge connecting the Brownsville community to Mexico,” said Javier Herrera García, CEO of Aerus. “We are very happy and deeply grateful to the people of Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley for their trust and support. Through our new alliance with Viva Aerobus, we will now offer seamless connections via Monterrey to more than 25 destinations across Mexico, making it easier than ever for local residents and visitors to explore all that our country has to offer.”
Flights and ticket sales through the new partnership began Oct. 22, 2025.
